London’s Heathrow Airport said Monday that passenger numbers in November rose and that it was forecasting a strong December with departure numbers expected to peak in the week before Christmas Day.
The U.K.’s largest airport–jointly owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, China Investment Corp., Spain’s Ferrovial and other investment companies–said passenger numbers rose 10% to 6.1 million, and were up 30% in the January-to-November period at 72.5 million.
The company said traffic to North America peaked ahead of Thanksgiving with departures to India proving popular due to the Diwali festivities.
Heathrow said Toronto, Singapore and Chicago joined the “millionaire” club in November as more than a million passengers traveled on those routes so far in 2023, and that Lisbon, San Francisco and Edinburgh were in the running to achieve the same milestone.
