Asian stocks rise ahead of U.S. inflation report; many markets closed for holiday

TOKYO — Asian shares mostly rose Tuesday, as investors watched for the latest indicators on U.S. inflation.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 JP:NIK added 2.2% in morning trading. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 AU:XJO edged up nearly 0.1% and South Korea’s Kospi KR:180721 jumped 1.2% to 2,651.33. Trading was closed in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for the Lunar New Year holiday.
