Next week’s question
I am training to be a solicitor at a top US law firm in London. I have always wanted to be a human rights lawyer, but as I couldn’t afford to self-fund my studies I took the corporate route. A year in, and I am already desperate to leave. Once I qualify in September 2024, I can. The hours are tough and it feels like life is passing me by.
But I’m torn. Should I stay one year post qualification to save up some money? I don’t come from a rich family and it could help me save and pay off some student debt; I know human rights doesn’t pay well. Do I leave immediately for human rights, or something similar like the civil service? I’d be happier, but would I feel as challenged in a less fast-paced role? Or, do I take some time out and do an LLM in the US, where I ultimately want to relocate, as this is where my partner lives.
I feel overwhelmed at the impact of each decision on my future life path and I don’t even know where to begin!
