You Won’t Mind Being ‘Home Alone’ at This Plaza Hotel Penthouse Now Asking $70 Million

Two condo units at New York’s legendary Plaza Hotel have been combined to create a more than 10,000-square-foot apartment listed for $70 million.

The home overlooks Central Park from atop the more than century-old landmarked building, which has featured in films like the 1992 comedy “Home Alone 2” and “The Way We Were” (1972) and was converted into condos roughly 15 years ago.

“The view, the grandeur, the romance of the Plaza Hotel is yours in these two extraordinary neighboring triplex and duplex penthouses,” according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty.

And with seven bedrooms, there’s plenty of room for friends and family without sacrificing privacy for the residents.

“Since the Covid era, family compounds continue to be the goal for the uber-wealthy,” Field said. “Securing either vertical or horizontal contiguous residences offers multi-generational families secure, opulent life-styles within comfortable distance.”

Conceived as the primary residence, the larger unit is a 6,316-square-foot triplex with its own elevator, according to the listing. It features a living room “flanked with magnificent marble,” a chef’s kitchen with a skylight, an island and a substantial pantry, a study and a family room with a gas fireplace.

It has four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, with the primary suite on its own level and boasting two bathrooms and two dressing rooms.

The owners, who were not available for comment, bought the triplex from British property developer Christian Candy in 2017 for $32.7 million, Mansion Global reported at the time. It was briefly listed as a single unit for $33 million in November, listing records show.

Meanwhile, a duplex imagined as the guest home, at nearly 4,000 square feet, has a grand foyer and great room, a butler’s kitchen and three bedroom suites, the listing said. The main bedroom has a wood-burning fireplace with a marble surround, views of the park and a sitting area, plus a marble bathroom and access to a loggia that leads to the terrace and is “bordered by the notable green copper pattern cresting on its mansard roof at the top of the Plaza Hotel,” the listing said.

The duplex last sold in 2019 for $29 million to the owners of the larger apartment, records show.

The apartments are connected on the 21st floor by the long terrace, which adds more than 700 square feet of living space.

Lavish building amenities at the Plaza include a Champagne Bar, a Guerlain spa and a fitness center, as well as doorman and concierge services, the listing said. And, of course, it’s just steps from world-class shopping on Fifth Avenue and Central Park.
