The next problem

I’ve worked for a medium-sized firm for seven years. How we operate is nearly unique in the UK and the EU. I’ve also become the default expert internally — and I feel like I’m expected to manage the regulatory and legal framework for our operation almost single-handedly.

Externally, people know who I am, and I have good industry exposure. The authority and autonomy I have in this job are very rewarding. But I’m worried that what I’m learning isn’t applicable elsewhere and I’m in danger of becoming a “lifer”. How do I know when it’s time to broaden my horizons? Female, 30s
