Rheinmetall has received an order for artillery ammunition for Ukraine under the framework agreement with the German military forces.

The German weapons manufacturer said Tuesday that the ammunition was ordered by the German government and that it is worth an amount in the mid-three-digit million-euro range.

It includes over a hundred thousand 155mm shells from the company’s new Spanish subsidiary Rheinmetall Expal Munitions and additional DM121 high-explosive rounds, it said.

Rheinmetall expects to deliver tens of thousands of rounds in the current year and the remainder in 2024.

The company has received several large orders for artillery ammunition due to the need of numerous nations to restock their supplies following the war in Ukraine, the company said.

In July, Rheinmetall and the German military forces reached a framework agreement for artillery ammunition, which runs until 2029 and represents gross potential order volumes of around 1.2 billion euros ($1.27 billion), although two large call-offs have already been made, it said.
