S&P 500 futures slide as Treasury yields reach fresh 16-year highs

U.S. stock index futures extended losses early Thursday after long-dated Treasury yields rose to 16-year highs in the wake of the the Federal Reserve’s decision Wednesday to hold its policy interest rate unchanged but keep rates higher-for-longer.

On Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA fell 77 points, or 0.22%, to 34441, the S&P 500 SPX declined 42 points, or 0.94%, to 4402, and the Nasdaq Composite COMP dropped 209 points, or 1.53%, to 13469.
