STOCKHOLM–The Swedish Transport Workers’ Union will stop collecting waste from Tesla workshops in a show of support for Tesla mechanics currently on strike in the country, it said Wednesday.

Mechanics at Sweden’s IF Metall union have been striking since October to try to force the U.S. electric vehicle maker into signing a collective bargaining agreement. The move has prompted other unions across the Nordics to join the industrial action with sympathy measures, including dockworkers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland refusing to offload Tesla cars bound for the Swedish market.

“This type of sympathy action is very rare. We are using it now to protect the Swedish collective agreements and the safety of the Swedish labor market model,” said Tommy Wreeth, president of the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union.

The Swedish Transport Workers’ Union will begin its waste management blockade from Dec. 24, unless IF Metall and Tesla have signed an agreement before then.
