Biden address: US president Joe Biden is set to give a primetime address from the Oval Office on the country’s response to the Hamas attacks on Israel and the war in Ukraine.
Blackstone: The New York-based private equity group is forecast to report that its assets under management increased in the third quarter from the same period a year earlier, according to analysts’ polled by Refinitiv. The group surpassed $1tn AUM for the first time in the second quarter.
Earnings: Tobacco manufacturer Philip Morris, carrier American Airlines, telecommunications company AT&T, mining company Freeport-McMoran, and regional bank Western Alliance are all reporting before the bell.
Jobless claims: New applications for unemployment aid are forecast to have increased to 212,000 in the week ended October 14, compared with 209,000 claims a week prior.
US existing home sales: Economists have forecast that sales of existing homes in the US declined in September to an annualised rate of 3.9mn units, down from 4.04mn in August, as higher mortgage rates deter buyers.
